About the speaker:
January 1993 – December 1994: Desk officer responsible for CIS republics and Turkey (primary responsibility for the Russian federation and Ukraine).Served on the task team for president Nelson Mandela’s inauguration in may 1994. Completed diplomatic training in 1994 (awarded the communications prize). January 1995 – January 1999: Dave served at the South African high commission in Harare, Zimbabwe. Responsible for bilateral and multilateral relations with Zimbabwe, particularly SADC matters. Dave was Chairperson of the junior diplomatic association in Zimbabwe. Passed advanced SADC course at the training institute in 1996. January 1999 – 1 June 2001: Assistant director responsible for OAU/AEC economic, social and technical Affairs. Member of the African renaissance transformation task team from march 2000 to January 2001, when joined the millennium African recovery program (MAP) technical drafting team. Member of the international relations, peace and security (IRPS) economic development cluster sub-committee. 1 June 2001 – 19 January 2004: Promoted to deputy director and seconded to the presidency and from there to the new partnership for Africa’s development (NEPAD) secretariat. Served as the manager: international liaison and coordination at the NEPAD secretariat. 19 January 2004 – 19 January 2007: Returned to the department. Promoted to director in October 2004. Responsible for Nepad, the African renaissance and international cooperation fund, program and information management. Also responsible for IRPS African renaissance sub-committee secretariat. On 22 January 2007, took up post at the South African embassy in Beijing, China as minister plenipotentiary.
